Developer, data analyst, and tech inclusion leader. Over 13 years of civic engagement and public service experience.
Joy Whitt is a developer, data scientist, and civic tech organizer.. She most recently worked as a data and technology strategist for a civic engagement organization, and as an Economic Intelligence analyst at the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED). She has worked on open data APIs, data visualization, and analysis projects utilizing real estate, affordable housing, and business development data for both private and public organizations. She also runs civic hackathons with various tech inclusion groups including Tech, Rebalanced. In 2015, Joy transitioned from marketing and PR to a career in technology; she learned to code with organizations and individuals committed to teaching coding and programming to women, people of color, and LGBTQ communities in the District. Joy got her start in public and national service in 2005, through programs like Alternative Breaks at her alma mater, Grand Valley State University, and AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps throughout the Midwest and Gulf Coast.
